Accra: The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission, has extended aid to families affected by the recent floods in Samreboi, located in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
According to Ghana Web, the relief was delivered by Joseph Osiakwan, the Technical Director of Forestry at the Ministry, on behalf of Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry, and the Forestry Commission. The support package comprised 20 camp beds, 200 pairs of Wellington boots, 100 raincoats, 600 cutlasses, 130 mosquito nets, 100 bags of rice, and 50 boxes each of cooking oil, canned mackerel, and canned tomatoes.
During the presentation, Mr. Osiakwan emphasized the government's commitment to supporting the affected residents, assuring them they are not alone in this challenging period. He also urged local residents and leaders to address the root causes of flooding to prevent future occurrences.
The donation ceremony saw the attendance of several notable figures, including Isaac Essien, Esq., Board Chair of the Forestry Commission; Dr. Richard Gyimah, Acting Executive Director of the Timber Industry Development Division (TIDD); Dr. Gordon Kofi Sarfo-Adu, Acting Executive Director of the Forestry Services Division (FSD); Ransford Quaidoo, General Manager of Samartex Timber Company; and other officials from the Forestry Commission's Asankragwa office.
