Accra: The Ministry of the Interior has issued a strong advisory for the public to exercise extreme caution in the wake of severe rains and widespread flooding affecting several regions of the country.
According to Ghana Web, a statement released on June 30, 2026, in response to the flooding in Accra, emphasized the importance of staying indoors for those at home and recommended that individuals at workplaces or other secure locations avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve.
"As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided," the statement read.
The Ministry further cautioned against driving or walking through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, highlighting the rapid rise of floodwaters and the significant dangers they pose to life and property.
Emergency response teams, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been mobilized to the affected areas. Their roles include monitoring the situation, assisting stranded individuals, managing traffic, and conducting rescue operations where necessary.
Communities in flood-prone areas were advised to move to higher ground if possible and report any emergencies or individuals in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.
