Sevilla: Sevilla striker Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of sexual assault and bodily harm, the Valencian Community High Court of Justice said on Monday.
According to Ghana Web, Mir was tried on May 28 and found guilty of one count of sexual assault and one count of bodily harm by the Provincial Court of Valencia. The high court announced the conviction on social media network X, noting that the decision could still be appealed.
A second defendant, a friend of Rafa Mir, was also convicted in the case. He received a sentence of two-and-a-half years in prison for one count of sexual assault and an offence against moral integrity, along with a small fine for a minor offence of bodily harm.
The court ordered Mir, who maintained his innocence, to pay the victim £64,000 (US$74,000) in compensation. The offences occurred on September 1, 2024, at Mir's residence in B©tera, a town in Valencia, after Mir and his friend met two women at a nightclub.
Rafa Mir, 28, began his career in Valencia's youth academy. He signed with Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018 before moving to Sevilla in 2021. In July 2024, he was loaned back to Valencia, where he was arrested in September 2024 and subsequently suspended for two matches. Mir spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Elche and has represented Spain at the youth level.
