Asante mampong: Mr. Peter Abum Sarkodie, former Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united, disciplined, and focused as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections. He emphasized that unity, hard work, and commitment to the party's ideals would be crucial if the NPP was to regain the confidence of Ghanaians and return to power.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Sarkodie noted in an interview at Asante Mampong that internal cohesion remains one of the most important factors in building a strong and competitive political party capable of winning national elections. His remarks come at a time when the NPP is undertaking efforts to reorganize its structures and strengthen its grassroots presence following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
Mr. Sarkodie stressed the need for party members to put aside their differences and work collectively towards a common goal. He highlighted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's presidential candidate for the 2028 elections, had consistently underscored the importance of unity among members. According to him, the NPP's prospects in the next election would largely depend on the willingness of members to support one another and place the party's interests above personal ambitions.
He urged party executives, Members of Parliament, former government appointees, communicators, and grassroots supporters to work together in promoting the party's message and engaging citizens on issues affecting their daily lives. Mr. Sarkodie emphasized that the party must focus on policies that address unemployment, economic growth, education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure development if it hopes to win back the support of the electorate.
He indicated that effective grassroots mobilization, regular engagement with communities, and a clear policy direction would be key to positioning the NPP as a credible alternative ahead of the 2028 elections. The former MP cautioned party members against complacency, saying they should not assume that 2028 was too far away, but rather begin engaging grassroots supporters now.
He also called on party leaders to support initiatives aimed at fostering unity and strengthening the party's electoral fortunes. Mr. Sarkodie said a united front would enable the NPP to overcome internal challenges, expand its support base, and present a compelling vision for Ghana's future. He expressed confidence that renewed commitment, discipline, and collective effort would place the party in a strong position to reclaim power and continue contributing to Ghana's democratic development.
The former legislator maintained that the NPP's policies and programs during its years in government had contributed significantly to national development and deserved another opportunity to serve the country.
