Savannah: The Savannah Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the missing of a newborn from the East Gonja District Hospital in Salaga on June 10, 2026. In a statement dated June 11, 2026, the Directorate said, following the incident, a search conducted at the facility proved futile. It subsequently reported the incident to the police.
According to Ghana Web, following the report of the incident, an immediate search was conducted within the facility. However, the efforts did not yield any results, and the matter was subsequently reported to the East Gonja District Police Command for investigation. The Regional Health Directorate extended its condolences to the affected family, assuring them of its full support as investigations continue.
The statement also reassured the public about safety protocols and appealed for any information regarding the missing baby. The Directorate emphasized that the safety, security, and well-being of patients and all clients of the health service remain a top priority. The Directorate appealed to the public to volunteer any information about the missing baby to the nearest police station or the Savannah Regional Health Directorate.
Meanwhile, the Tamale Circuit Court has remanded two midwives at the facility into police custody for one week in connection with the incident.
