Accra: The Academic City University has honoured Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, a former Minister of Defence, with its Distinguished Service Award. The award recognises Alhaji Iddrisu's dedication to public service, leadership, and his contribution to Ghana's national development.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Iddrisu was honoured at the fifth congregation ceremony of the Academic City University, where 157 students received degrees, including four master's graduates and 153 undergraduates. A citation from the University highlighted his service as Ghana's longest-serving Minister of Defence from 1985 to 1999, among other roles.
Professor Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City University, praised Alhaji Iddrisu for his commitment and integrity in advancing national development. He noted Alhaji Iddrisu's legacy of leadership and service, which continues to inspire young Africans.
Alhaji Iddrisu expressed gratitude to Academic City University and recounted the educational challenges faced in Northern Ghana during his youth. He emphasized the collective efforts of all citizens in Ghana's progress and described Academic City University as a symbol of hope and innovation.
He urged graduates to use their education to serve society and contribute to Ghana's development. Alhaji Iddrisu commended the graduates and expressed confidence in their abilities to positively impact their communities and beyond.
