GNFS Records 33 Fire Incidents in Western North in First Quarter of 2026

Accra: The Western North Region recorded 33 fire incidents in the first quarter of 2026, down from 36 in the same period in 2025. This represents an 8.33 percent decrease year-on-year.

According to Ghana News Agency, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Philip Kudzo Amagnoh, the Regional Commander, highlighted that domestic fires were a significant concern. The region saw 17 domestic fire cases in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 70 percent increase from 10 cases in the first quarter of 2025. Industrial fire incidents remained constant at four for both years, while commercial fires increased from three in 2025 to seven in 2026. Additionally, the command recorded two electrical fires and three vehicular fires in the first quarter of 2026.

Mr. Amagnoh emphasized the efforts of the Safety and Public Relations Department, which has been tasked with intensifying public education on fire prevention. The department aims to train workers in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities on fire safety and the use of portable extinguishers. He attributed the overall decline in fire cases during the quarter to intensified house-to-house and market sensitisation efforts.

The Regional Commander commended the residents for their cooperation and called for stronger collaboration, stressing that firefighting is a shared responsibility. He also praised Nana Ofori Ahenkan, the Chief of Sefwi-Boinzan and Council Chairman, for his leadership and urged residents to support him. Furthermore, Mr. Amagnoh appealed for a regional headquarters to enhance firefighting response in the Western North Region.
