Mankessim: The Mankessim Traditional Council has officially announced the demise of Nana Ama Amissah III, the Paramount Queen Mother of the Mankessim Traditional Area, who passed away two months ago in the United States of America.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Council has declared a state of mourning in the Traditional Area and instructed that Mankessim be adorned in black and red to mark their tragic loss. The Pakesedo Nsona Royal Family, led by Ebusuapanyin Kwame Kwakye and Ebusuapanyin Kojo Dickson, formally reported the incident to the council during a durbar to celebrate the Ahoba Ketsewa on Friday, following which the Council made the public announcement.
The announcement was met with wailing by the family and residents as grief swept through the town and its communities. Clad in black and red, the traditional authorities and residents displayed their sorrow. As per custom, libation was poured, and a sacrificial sheep was slaughtered to seek a peaceful repose for her soul.
The queen mother died at age 60 in the US after a short illness, with her remains flown to Ghana on May 10, 2026, by the government. Born in 1966, Nana Ama Amissah was enstooled on July 2, 1994, serving her community and beyond for three decades, including a position on the Board of Goldbod in May 2025.
Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, the Omanhen of the Mankessim Traditional Area, expressed sorrow over the queen mother's passing, describing her as a pillar of wisdom and compassion. He recounted their last meeting two months ago, highlighting her dedication to traditional leadership.
The Council and the Pakesedo Nsona Royal Family extend condolences to all affected by this loss and request prayers for the family. The Omanhen announced that a committee would be set up to plan a befitting funeral. He also thanked President Mahama for assisting in transporting the queen mother's remains to Ghana.
Emphasizing unity and peace, the Omanhen urged the people of Mankessim to use the tragedy to foster unity, noting that while the area is peaceful, it lacks unity, which is crucial for the Traditional Area's well-being.
