Takoradi: The Western Regional Branch of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited has received a significant boost to its transport operations with the delivery of 11 new buses. This development is part of a larger procurement effort by the government, which saw a total of 100 buses acquired to enhance both intra-city and inter-city transport networks throughout the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, officially handed over the buses to the MMT management team in Takoradi. He highlighted that this initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to revamp Ghana's transport systems and provide relief to commuters navigating the country's urban and rural transport routes. Mr. Nelson remarked, "The arrival of these buses marks a defining moment for us because we have been fortunate to receive 11 out the 100 procured. We can only be grateful to the President for this great initiative."
Mr. Nelson emphasized the importance of implementing effective maintenance strategies to ensure the buses' longevity. He also urged the drivers and conductors to adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent road accidents.
Mr. Albert Asarhin, the Western Regional Manager of MMT Limited, expressed gratitude to the government for the procurement of additional buses, which will enhance their existing fleet and improve service delivery. He noted that the previous fleet consisted of only eight buses, which led to the suspension of operations on certain routes. With the new additions, MMT plans to revive those routes and improve passenger services.
The new buses are set to serve various inter-city routes, including Takoradi to Accra, Tarkwa, Elubo, Kumasi, Obuasi, Dunkwa, Sandema, and other communities within the Western Region.
