GOSANET Foundation Organises Training Workshop for Community-Based Health Volunteers in Adaklu District

Accra: GOSANET Foundation, a health-focused non-governmental organisation based in the Adaklu District, on Friday organised a refresher training workshop for Community-Based Health Volunteers drawn from the Adaklu Ahunda and Adaklu Helekpe sub-districts at Adaklu Ahunda Boso. Mr Samuel Yao Atidzah, Executive Director of GOSANET Foundation, highlighted the significance of this initiative.

According to Ghana News Agency, the training is part of the National Malaria Elimination Programme implemented by the Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service in the Adaklu District. The volunteers received training in Social and Behaviour Change Communication and malaria prevention strategies.

Mr Atidzah explained that the workshop also covered community sensitisation approaches, methods for identifying and following up with pregnant women, and the importance of sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine uptake among expectant mothers. He encouraged the volunteers to utilise their new skills to help eliminate malaria in their communities.

The volunteers are set to embark on educational campaigns in schools, churches, mosques, and markets following the training. They will also organise community sensitisation programmes and town hall meetings in 15 selected communities across the district from June to September this year.

Mr Atidzah reiterated the Foundation's commitment to supporting community health interventions and malaria elimination efforts in the Adaklu District. He praised the Ghana Health Service, facilitators, and volunteers for their dedication to the successful implementation of the training programme and their commitment to combating malaria.

Madam Ernestine Dzifa Adu, a midwife at the Adaklu Ahunda Boso Health Centre, urged volunteers to educate pregnant women on the importance of using insecticide-treated mosquito nets and adhering to prescribed medication. Ms Lynda Buatsi, Adaklu District Health Promotion Officer, provided training on the importance of antenatal care and effective community engagement.

The volunteers pledged their commitment to supporting malaria prevention activities in their communities.
