Accra: Mrs Enyonam Apetorgbor, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Keta FC, has appealed to the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, to intervene in what she described as worrying developments within the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), particularly concerning the ongoing Volta Middle League.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs Apetorgbor expressed concern in an open letter addressed to the GFA President about growing perceptions among clubs and stakeholders that administrative decisions within the VRFA were being influenced by money, privileged access, and external pressure rather than fairness and established regulations. She highlighted that such perceptions posed a serious threat to the credibility and integrity of football administration in the Volta Region.
Mrs Apetorgbor alleged that some officials within the regional football administration might be compromising fairness by leaking privileged information to competing clubs for financial gain. She noted that such alleged practices undermined the confidence of clubs that had invested resources, players, and credibility into the competition.
She highlighted that football in the Volta Region had witnessed significant growth in recent years, with clubs investing heavily in player development and communities increasingly supporting the sport as a tool for youth empowerment and economic opportunity. However, she cautioned that alleged administrative manipulation, selective justice, and external influence in disciplinary matters could undermine the progress made in the development of football in the region.
Mrs Apetorgbor appealed to the GFA President to ensure that the VRFA applied its regulations fairly and transparently and protected clubs from what she termed administrative abuse. She called for enhanced oversight of the Volta Middle League, a review of the handling of protests and disciplinary cases, and measures to safeguard the integrity of football competitions in the region.
She emphasized that the issue extends beyond one club and concerns the credibility of Volta football and Ghana football as a whole. Mrs Apetorgbor stressed that if clubs begin to believe that results can be influenced outside the field of play, confidence in the game and investment in football development will suffer. She reaffirmed Keta FC's commitment to the development of football and respect for football institutions but stressed that remaining silent on the developments would amount to complicity.
Mrs Apetorgbor expressed confidence in the leadership of the GFA President to act fairly and decisively in the interest of Ghana football.
