Riyadh: The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the death of a Ghanaian pilgrim during the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The deceased, identified as Musah Sidi, 53, reportedly collapsed at the Haram (Holy Mosque) while performing Tawaf, the ritual circumambulation around the Holy Kaaba, and passed away shortly afterwards.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by the Office said the bereaved family had been informed, while arrangements were underway for Janazah (funeral) prayers after Jummah prayers ahead of the burial. The Office expressed condolences to the family and described the circumstances of the death as spiritually significant in Islamic tradition. 'Passing away while performing Tawaf is considered a profound blessing and a sign of a beautiful ending for a blessed Muslim,' the statement said.
In Islamic belief, a pilgrim who dies in a state of worship and in Ihram is accorded immense spiritual honour in the hereafter. More than 6,700 Ghanaians are officially participating in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
