Accra: Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has urged the party's Minority Caucus in Parliament to lead the charge in returning the NPP to electoral victory. Speaking at a closed-door meeting with the MPs, Afoko unveiled a new political strategy dubbed the '3R Agenda', focused on Reuniting, Rebuilding, and Recapturing power for the party. He described the initiative as a roadmap to restore unity, strengthen grassroots support, and position the NPP for future electoral success.
According to Ghana Web, Afoko expressed his commitment to the party's cause, revealing that recent developments have compelled him to step forward from his previous behind-the-scenes support. He emphasized the importance of unity and purpose as the first steps in getting the party back on a winning track. Afoko highlighted the critical role of the Minority MPs as both lawmakers and unifying figures within the party, warning that rebuilding internal cohesion is essential for their goal of returning to power.
Drawing from his experience as National Chairman, Afoko cited the NPP's 2014 presidential primaries as an example of internal discipline and unity, where candidates accepted the outcomes without breaking away. He noted the erosion of the party's electoral base over the years, especially during periods in government when internal competition led to division. Despite this, he pointed out that historically, the NPP has outperformed the NDC in vote percentages, indicating a strong but now weakened base.
Afoko proposed the 3R Agenda as a solution, focusing on Reuniting by healing internal divisions and restoring trust, Rebuilding by strengthening party structures, and Recapturing by re-engaging the base and presenting a credible front to Ghanaians. He appealed to party members to support this vision, citing his track record of delivering results as evidence of his capability. Afoko concluded by urging the NPP to move past internal rivalries and concentrate on winning the trust of Ghanaians to return to government and deliver development.
