GFA Opens Talks with Jamaica over Black Stars Friendly Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Accra: The Ghana Football Association has reportedly initiated discussions with Jamaica regarding a potential international friendly, as the Black Stars intensify their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Ghana Web, the technical team of Ghana is eager to enhance the squad's readiness ahead of the global tournament, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The proposed friendly against Jamaica is part of a strategic effort to ensure the Black Stars are adequately prepared for the competition.

In recent months, the Black Stars have competed against formidable opponents, including Austria and Germany, during the tenure of former head coach Otto Addo. However, a series of unsatisfactory results led to his departure. Most recently, Ghana faced a 2-0 defeat to Mexico at the Estadio Cuauht©moc in Puebla, with assistant coach Desmond Ofei temporarily at the helm.

The team was initially scheduled to conclude their pre-World Cup friendlies against Wales on June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium. However, reports indicate that newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz has requested an additional fixture to further assess his squad before the tournament commences.

This request has prompted the planning of fresh fixtures, with discussions reportedly at an advanced stage for a potential match against Jamaica's Reggae Boyz. Ghana aims to recover from recent setbacks, following group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.
