Ada: Youth groups in the Ada Traditional Area have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene in what they describe as worsening infrastructure challenges, including deplorable roads, lack of street lighting, poor healthcare delivery, and coastal erosion affecting several communities.
According to Ghana Web, the youth are highlighting significant concerns about the poor state of road networks and the absence of basic lighting infrastructure. In an interview with Channel One TV on May 23, 2026, Opesika emphasized the urgency of the situation, particularly noting the lack of streetlights over a 12-kilometer stretch of road, which leaves residents vulnerable at night.
"The youth of Ada, are very much concerned about our road networks. Our lighting system on the streets. the road on which we pass before getting here, you can realize that there is no single street light on the road," Opesika stated.
He further elaborated on the risks posed by this deficiency, explaining that major roads in the Ada West and Ada East districts lack any street lighting, putting residents at risk during nighttime travel.
The group also expressed frustration over the poor condition of major road networks connecting several communities within the area. Roads from Segue to Lologna, Nakom Kope to Colorado, and other routes such as from Casse to Ada 4, and from Ada 4 to Toto Pei, are described as being in dire need of improvement.
Opesika pointed out that the combination of bad roads, inadequate street lighting, and coastal erosion is jeopardizing lives, hindering economic activity, and restricting access to essential services like healthcare.
The youth are urging the government to prioritize urgent rehabilitation works, improved lighting systems, and long-term coastal protection measures to safeguard livelihoods in the Ada Traditional Area.
