Accra: Madam Sariel Etwire, the Accra West General Manager at the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), announced that the company has invested more than GHS3,000,000.00 in the first quarter of 2026 to enhance power reliability and stability in 40 communities across six districts in its Accra West operational region. This investment is part of ECG's ongoing efforts to address power supply challenges and improve customer experiences.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Etwire emphasized the company's commitment to delivering quality, reliable, and safe electricity services to support Ghana's economic growth and development during a technical review meeting. She highlighted that illegal connections, uncleared vegetation, and vandalism are significant contributors to frequent transformer damage and overloading. "When transformers become overloaded, ECG risks losing them through burnouts. Customers, on the other hand, suffer from persistent low voltage and phase-off, especially during peak hours," she explained.
The General Manager urged customers and community leaders to be vigilant and report any unauthorized persons interfering with ECG's network to their nearest office. This, she noted, would help protect the power infrastructure and improve service delivery. She also advised customers to prioritize safety by reporting any fallen conductors, especially during and after rainfall, for immediate attention. Additionally, she encouraged communities to seek assistance from ECG district offices for trimming trees that entangle power lines.
The Accra West Region is responsible for ECG's eight operational districts: Ablekuma, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Korle-Bu, and Nsawam. Communities where transformers were replaced or upgraded include Dunyo Township, Dunyo New Site, DVLA Kuntunse, Amasaman China Mall, Amasaman, and Oduntia, along with Ablekuma, Anyaa, Nsakina, Banana Inn, Bortianor, and Dansoman.
Representatives from some beneficiary communities present at the technical review meeting expressed their gratitude for ECG's prompt intervention and pledged their support in protecting installations from vandalism and illegal connections.
