Accra: The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has firmly dismissed claims that the government's Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is failing. Despite facing criticism from opposition parties, Dr Ayine insists that the programme is both active and effective, showcasing his commitment to combating corruption.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Ayine addressed these concerns while speaking at Aqua Safari on the sidelines of the Public Accounts Committee sitting on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He countered suggestions of ORAL's ineffectiveness by highlighting ongoing legal proceedings that have intensified the pressure on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dr Ayine emphasized that the current wave of corruption prosecutions under the Fourth Republic is unprecedented, asserting that his office has achieved significant progress.
Dr Ayine remarked, "Go back and check the records, I am the first Attorney-General in the history of the Fourth Republic to have brought five corruption cases in one year." This statement underscores his commitment to tackling corruption and demonstrates the diligence with which his office is pursuing these cases. He further noted that the prosecutions have unsettled political opponents who fear the repercussions of the legal proceedings against them.
In addition, Dr Ayine dismissed claims that the government is shifting its focus away from the ORAL initiative, reiterating that it remains firmly on course. He stated, "So the accusation that we are shifting focus away from ORAL is not something that I will pay heed to because ORAL is on track and ORAL is going to succeed." His comments reflect a resolute stance on the continuation and success of the anti-corruption initiative.
