Accra: Entertainment pundit and artiste manager Kwesi Ernest has shared insights into his experiences managing both secular and gospel musicians, asserting that secular artistes, despite being more challenging to handle, demonstrate greater loyalty.
According to Ghana Web, Kwesi Ernest discussed the challenges of managing secular artistes in an interview on ‘UCook,’ hosted by Empress Gifty. He explained that secular musicians often engage in lifestyles that include drugs, alcohol, and frequent clubbing, making them more difficult to manage. “When it comes to work ethics, secular artistes are more difficult to manage, especially if you meet one who is very stubborn, the ones who do drugs, alcohol, and like going to clubs,” he said.
Despite these challenges, Kwesi Ernest emphasized that secular musicians tend to be more loyal and supportive compared to their gospel counterparts. He cited examples of secular artists like singer Becca and artiste King David, who have maintained strong personal relationships with him over the years. “Even today, someone like Becca, anywhere she sees me, she hugs me. She usually checks up on me. Someone like King David, anytime I go to the US, he checks up on me and even picks me from the airport,” he revealed.
Kwesi Ernest contrasted this with his experiences with gospel musicians, noting that many of them hardly keep in touch. “But none of the gospel artistes I’ve worked with have wished me Merry Christmas or even a happy birthday,” he lamented.
Addressing suggestions that strained relationships could stem from contract disputes, Kwesi Ernest insisted that kindness and loyalty should transcend business agreements. “Being a good person is not about the contract. You can’t be a good person just because of a contract,” he added.
