Woman Accuses Partner of Posing Her as Maid to Marry Belgian for Travel Documents

Kumasi: A 27-year-old woman, Abena Fosuaa, has taken her partner, Kwame Agyemang, also known as Dada, to a local television station, alleging that he falsely introduced her as a maid in order to marry a Belgian woman to obtain travel documents. According to Ghana Web, Abena shared her story on Oyerepa Afutuo, a domestic issues program broadcasted on Oyerepa TV. She claimed that she has been living with Dada's family for the past decade after becoming pregnant with his child at the age of 17 while she was an apprentice. Abena recounted how Dada promised her father that he would take care of her and eventually marry her. Abena explained that six months into their relationship, she became pregnant and moved to live with Dada's mother. She stayed there for years, even giving birth to their second child, without returning to her apprenticeship as initially promised. Her story took a turn when Dada became acquainted with a Belgian woman through a family event. Dada's elder brother, who resides in Belgium, was un able to travel to Ghana for his marriage ceremony, so Dada represented him. The event was recorded and shared with the Belgian family, sparking the interest of the Belgian woman's friend in Dada. Abena alleged that this interest led to preparations for Dada to marry the Belgian woman. She claimed that her in-laws sent her to visit her father under the pretense of a long absence, only to conduct the marriage ceremony in her absence. Furthermore, Abena accused the family of introducing her to the Belgian woman as a maid who had an affair with Dada, resulting in pregnancy. She asserted that the marriage was solely for the purpose of acquiring travel documents. Feeling betrayed after a decade-long relationship and two children, Abena is now seeking compensation from Dada and his family, stating, "I have stayed with them for 10 years and we now have two children together, yet he has gone ahead to marry another woman."
