Ghanaian Detainees in Saudi Arabia Return Home Through Intervention of Said Sinare, Ablakwa

Accra: Ghana's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, has expressed gratitude to John Dramani Mahama, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Saudi authorities following the successful return of several Ghanaian women who had been detained in the Middle Eastern country. In a Facebook post on May 14, 2026, he said he was deeply humbled by a video sent by the women while on their journey back to Ghana. He described their safe return as both emotional and fulfilling.

According to Ghana Web, Ambassador Sinare emphasized that the initiative was not just about intervention but about standing for humanity, compassion, and the dignity of every Ghanaian woman regardless of where she finds herself. He thanked President Mahama, Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the staff of the Ghana Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and Saudi authorities for their cooperation and diplomatic understanding in facilitating the women's return.

The ambassador also welcomed the women home and commended them for their courage and resilience throughout their detention. He noted that under President Mahama's leadership, no Ghanaian should ever feel forgotten, regardless of where they may be.

In April 2026, Alhaji Said Sinare announced that several Ghanaian women being held in detention in Saudi Arabia over various offences were expected to be deported to Ghana following diplomatic engagements with Saudi authorities. According to him, the breakthrough followed productive discussions with Saudi officials and a personal visit to the detainees as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare of Ghanaians living in the Middle Eastern country.
