Minister Launches 24-Hour Economy Market Project in Kassena-Nankana West

Ghana: Kassena-Nankana West Mr Akamugri Donatus Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, has initiated the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market in Nania, Kassena-Nankana West District. The project is part of the government's 24-Hour Economy Initiative, aimed at enhancing economic growth, trade, and industrial activity while creating jobs and improving livelihoods.

According to Ghana News Agency, the 24-Hour Market will feature 21 facilities, including lockable shops, sheds, food courts, warehouses, a clinic, and a daycare centre. Sunlu Ghana Limited will execute the project, with Avangarde Design Services as the consultant. The market, expected to be completed in 18 months, aims to boost public and private sector employment opportunities and local economic activities.

Mr Atanga emphasized that the initiative reflects the government's gratitude for the support received in the 2024 general election. The project is seen as a strategic intervention to tackle youth unemployment across the country, conceived by President John Dramani Mahama. The market is designed to ensure a secure environment for businesses to operate continuously, with facilities such as police and fire service posts enhancing safety for traders and customers.

The Minister commended landowners, chiefs, and residents for their support and stressed the importance of local involvement in the project to create employment opportunities. Mr Stephen Aeke Akurugu, the Kassena-Nankana West District Chief Executive, highlighted the project's significance in the district's development, citing its potential to provide a modern trading environment and increase revenue.

Mr Nikyema Billa Alamzy, MP for Chiana-Paga Constituency, noted the strategic importance of the market due to the area's proximity to Sahelian countries, enhancing market opportunities for local traders. This market is one of four projects initiated by the Minister in the region, including Bolgatanga and Kassena-Nankana Municipalities, and Bawku West District.
