ABA Therapists Need Regulation to Support Families – Mind Bridge CEO

Accra: Ms Priscilla Afriyie Aban, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Mind Bridge Learning Centre, has called on the government to provide regulation for Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapists to ensure appropriate support for families and their children. According to Ghana News Agency, the ABA is an evidence-based, structured therapy commonly used for individuals with autism to increase helpful behaviours such as communication, social skills, and self-care, while reducing harmful ones. Ms Aban emphasized that policies and regulations on ABA in Ghana would guarantee ethical care, high-quality services, and protect vulnerable children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from exploitation or harmful practices. She made the call when Professor Mabel Oti Boadi, Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, donated sensory items to the Mind Bridge Learning Centre to mark her birthday. Ms Aban expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as timely. Prof. Oti Boadi, w ho for several years celebrated her birthday with the special needs community, said she used the occasion annually to renew her commitment to supporting children with special needs. She urged the government, NGOs, and philanthropists to pay greater attention to families of children with special needs to help them live meaningful and fulfilled lives.
