Accra: As preparations begin to take shape ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, South African coach Rogerio Paulo Cesar De S¡ has opened up on what could be the biggest hurdle facing the Ghana national football team: building a competitive squad in a limited time frame.
According to Ghana Web, De S¡, who is strongly linked with a role on Carlos Queiroz's technical team, admits the task is far from straightforward. Speaking to KickOff Magazine, he revealed the extensive groundwork already underway behind the scenes. 'I've been watching a lot of films, videos, watching different players with different clubs,' he said, highlighting the effort being put into scouting potential call-ups. However, he did not shy away from the reality of the situation.
'The biggest challenge is obviously to select a team without having really enough time. And obviously, the preparations are also very short. You've got two weeks to prepare your team,' he added. De S¡ has emerged as a leading candidate to join Queiroz's backroom staff following the Portuguese coach's appointment by the Ghana Football Association.
With Queiroz set to be officially unveiled on Thursday, April 23, 2025, attention is quickly shifting to assembling a capable technical team. If confirmed, De S¡'s experience could be crucial, but as he admits, time may be their biggest opponent.
