Minister Urges Families to Ease Household Chores for BECE Candidates

Ahafo: Mrs. Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister, has called on families to allow their children, currently sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), to focus on their studies rather than being burdened with household chores. She emphasized the importance of giving the candidates ample time to revise their notes to successfully pass the BECE and also urged families to monitor and control the night activities of the candidates.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Gardiner shared this advice during a media interview following her visits to several examination centers in the region. She encouraged the candidates to remain diligent and confident as they write their exams. Highlighting the critical role of the BECE in determining the academic future of the candidates, she reiterated the need for families to reduce household responsibilities that could hinder the students' preparation and performance.

Mrs. Gardiner's tour included stops at the OLA Girls Senior High School Examination Centre in Kenyasi, Kodiwohia Basic School Examination Centre, and Hwidiem SHS Examination Centre. At each location, she interacted with candidates, offering motivation to inspire them to perform their best.

In a separate interview, Mr. Abraham Fletcher, the Ahafo Regional Director of Education, who accompanied Mrs. Gardiner, informed the Ghana News Agency that 12,479 candidates were participating in the BECE across the six politically administrative districts and municipalities in the region. The candidates comprised 6,347 males and 6,132 females. Mr. Fletcher urged them to engage in independent work and assured that strict measures had been implemented to prevent examination malpractices.
