Upper east region: The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, recently visited the Upper East Region to evaluate the ongoing work on the Tamne Dam project located in the Garu District. The project, which initially started in 2015 during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama, had experienced a period of abandonment but has now achieved approximately 75 percent completion.
According to Ghana Web, the completion of the dam is anticipated to provide irrigation to over 1,000 hectares of agricultural land. During his visit, Dr. Otokunor interacted with local farmer groups to discuss agricultural production challenges, such as agronomic constraints and difficulties in market access.
He shared several governmental measures designed to tackle these challenges, focusing on enhancing productivity and strengthening agricultural value chains. Dr. Otokunor reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's commitment to advancing modern irrigation agriculture, which is a key part of their broader strategy to improve food security in the region.
