Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a Divisional Police Headquarters at Laasi, Krobo-Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region. The new facility aims to strengthen security infrastructure and enhance policing capacity across the Municipality and surrounding communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the President donated a pickup truck and two motorcycles to the Divisional Headquarters to support operational efficiency and enhance effective law enforcement in the area. In his remarks, President Mahama emphasized that the event marked a renewed hope and a strengthening of institutional capacity, describing it as a bold step forward in the quest to build a secure and resilient nation.
President Mahama remarked on the critical importance of security as the foundation for national development. He noted that without peace and stability, progress in areas such as business, education, and sustainable livelihoods would be unattainable. He highlighted his administration's focus on investments in the security sector, particularly in the Ghana Police, which plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order.
The President reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring peace, safety, and security for every Ghanaian citizen. He mentioned that since taking office in 2025, the government had ordered 40 armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service, which have been instrumental in countering crime and robbery nationwide. He announced plans for an additional 40 armoured cars.
President Mahama outlined a vision for a modern, professional, and community-centered Police Service, equipped to respond to and prevent crime through intelligence and innovation. He emphasized the strategic importance of decentralizing policing to bring law enforcement closer to the people and enhance the operational readiness of officers.
The Divisional Police Headquarters is expected to serve as a hub for intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and rapid response, improving policing effectiveness in Krobo Land and beyond. The President commended Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, MP for Lower Manya Krobo, and his team for their efforts in rehabilitating the facility. He also praised Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Police Management Board for their dedication to transforming the police service.
President Mahama acknowledged the effectiveness of the Police Management Team's shift towards intelligence-led policing, which he deemed necessary in an era of increasingly sophisticated crime. Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the IGP, was among those in attendance at the event.
