Ketu north: The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has received 50 laptops under the government's One Million Coders Programme to support digital skills training and expand access to technology among young people in the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the laptops are part of a larger consignment of 900 laptops and accessories delivered to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations. These resources are earmarked for distribution to Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) within the Volta Region to facilitate the rollout of the One Million Coders Programme.
Rev Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), received the laptops on behalf of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly. He emphasized that this allocation marks a significant move towards expanding digital access and equipping the youth with coding and technology skills. Rev Amenaki highlighted that this intervention would help prepare young individuals in the municipality for opportunities in the digital economy while contributing to building a competitive and future-ready workforce.
The MCE assured that Ketu North is prepared to implement the initiative effectively and ensure the resources are used as intended. He stated that with the right structures, training support, and local commitment in place, these laptops would translate into real skills, innovation, and employment opportunities for the youth. The Assembly plans to ensure effective deployment of the laptops and proper coordination of the training programme to maximize its impact on beneficiaries.
Rev Amenaki also noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to bridge the digital divide, promote youth empowerment, and improve access to technology-driven opportunities in the municipality. He described the programme as a deliberate and sustainable step towards closing the digital gap and preparing the youth for the demands of the modern economy.
Furthermore, the MCE expressed gratitude to Mr Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, and President John Dramani Mahama for their leadership and commitment to digital inclusion and youth development. He acknowledged that their continued support is creating meaningful opportunities for young people and driving long-term socio-economic transformation in communities across the country.
