Akosombo: President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday paid a working visit to the fire-affected Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) electricity substation at Akosombo in the Eastern Region. The fire incident led to the loss of over 1,000 megawatts from the national grid. The President inspected ongoing restoration works and commended the engineers for their swift, professional response.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama said the Government remains committed to restoring stable power supply and strengthening the resilience of Ghana's energy infrastructure. He acknowledged the impact of the fire outbreak on Ghanaians and praised the Volta River Authority (VRA) for its organization and the quality of its human resources, which he believed would help address the situation.
The President expressed his gratitude to the engineers for their efforts in resolving the issue. He remarked on the unexpected nature of the incident, noting that the control room had been operational since 1964. Mahama emphasized that this adversity presents an opportunity to upgrade to a more modern control room to serve future generations effectively.
