Kwame Sefa Kayi Apologizes to NPP’s Chairman Wontumi

Accra: Media personality and host of Peace FM's morning show Kokrokoo, Kwame Sefa Kayi, has issued an apology to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This apology followed comments made by Sefa Kayi suggesting that Wontumi was not a suitable role model.

According to Ghana Web, the incident occurred during a discussion on Sefa Kayi's Kokrokoo show, where journalist and Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., brought up Chairman Wontumi's controversial claims about Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Wontumi had alleged that Opoku-Agyemang is not from the Central Region and accused her of having an affair with the President.

Amidst the discussion, Sefa Kayi interjected, questioning the suitability of Wontumi as a role model for children, particularly referencing Pratt's grandchild. He stated, 'Please, sometimes we entertain nonsense in this country. Kwesi, you have a grandchild and if we are looking for a role model, will you point to Wontumi for your grandchild? Would you point to Wontumi as a role model for your grandchild? For me, no.'

The remarks were met with criticism from some quarters, who found them disrespectful toward the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, who is currently campaigning for election as the party's National Chairman. In response to the feedback, Sefa Kayi retracted his statement, offering an apology, 'If it is below the belt, I apologise and I take it back. So those of you who find it offensive, I take it back and I apologise to Chairman Wontumi.'
