UEW Graduates Over 7,951 Students in Milestone Ceremony

Winneba: A total of 7,951 students are set to graduate from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) by the conclusion of the university's 30th congregation ceremony on Saturday, April 26, 2026. This four-day event, which began on Wednesday, April 22, includes students from various campuses such as Accra Academy, Accra College of Education (ATTRACO), and others, receiving degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

According to Ghana News Agency, the ceremony features graduates from the university's Centers of the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODel) across the country, along with students from the School of Graduate Studies. Out of the total graduates, 6,517 students earned bachelor's degrees, 457 were awarded diplomas, and 949 completed postgraduate studies, including 31 PhDs and 264 MPhil graduates.

Students from centers in Dambai, Ho, and other locations graduated on Thursday, with those from Bechem, Atebubu, and additional centers graduating on Friday. The event will culminate on Saturday with students from Winneba and several other centers receiving their accolades. Prof Stephen Jobson Mitchual, the Vice Chancellor, highlighted the university's growing research depth and academic maturity, noting the significance of the graduating class's composition, with 65 percent being female.

Prof Mitchual emphasized the shift towards gender inclusion and empowerment, noting that more than 45 percent of undergraduates achieved First Class and Second-Class Upper Division. He expressed gratitude for government support in expanding infrastructure and digitalization within public universities in Ghana.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the university's alignment with national priorities and its commitment to providing quality higher education through the Distance Education program. He underscored the university's mission to transform knowledge into a force for national development and highlighted recent engagements with the tertiary education commission, affirming UEW's progress in institutional quality and inclusivity.

UEW is enhancing infrastructure at its operational centers in Techiman and Tamale, with newly established centers in Cape Coast and Accra now complete. This initiative aims to enhance access to education and maintain rigorous standards, prioritizing welfare and security for staff and students.

Prof Mitchual congratulated the graduates, urging them to translate their knowledge into service and transformation, guided by integrity and excellence. He encouraged them to be lifelong learners and ambassadors of UEW, reflecting competence and professionalism in their future endeavors.
