Klikor: Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has led a government delegation to the Klikor Palace to express condolences to the chiefs, bereaved family, and people of the Klikor Traditional Area. This visit comes in the wake of the passing of their Paramount Chief and President of the Klikor Traditional Council, Torgbui Addo VIII.
According to Ghana News Agency, the late traditional ruler passed away on January 14, 2026, at the age of 93. Torgbui Addo VIII served his people since 1983, known for his commitment to traditional leadership and community development. The delegation included notable figures such as Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State; Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Mr Nicholas Kwabla Worklachie, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South; and Mr Bright Kumordzie, Ghana's Deputy Ambassador to Togo, among others.
The delegation signed a book of condolence and presented items to the bereaved family in a show of respect and solidarity. Mr Gunu described the late chief as a key figure in the traditional council, whose leadership would inspire future generations. He remarked on the loss felt by the people of Klikor, the Volta Region, and Ghana, expressing his hope for the late chief's peaceful rest.
Emphasizing the role of traditional authorities in governance and development, Mr Gunu noted the late chief's contributions to peace, unity, and progress in the region. The newly enstooled Paramount Chief, Torgbui Addo IX, led the chiefs in receiving the delegation and expressed gratitude for the support extended to the traditional area. He committed to building on his predecessor's legacy to foster development and maintain unity.
Funeral rites for the late Torgbui Addo VIII are set to begin on October 1, with the final burial scheduled for October 24, 2026.
