Keta: The Keta Municipality in the Volta Region is poised to enhance road connectivity with the commencement of the construction of the Abor-Tsiame-Atiavi Road, marked by a sod-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 29.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event will take place between 1300 hours and 1500 hours at Abor and Atiavi, focusing on improving infrastructure development in the municipality. Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress in Keta, mentioned that this event would follow a similar ceremony at KETASCO, signaling an organized effort to address critical infrastructure challenges.
Mr. Deynu urged residents to support the event, highlighting the persistent road network issues within the municipality and the commitment of the President Mahama-led NDC government to resolving these challenges. Notable attendees will include Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, MP for Keta, and Mr. Wisdom Seade, Municipal Chief Executive of Keta, along with assembly members, chiefs, and other stakeholders.
He stressed that the Abor-Tsiame-Atiavi road has been a government and community priority due to concerns about its poor condition affecting the movement of goods and access to essential services. The project is part of a broader infrastructure development plan for the Keta Constituency, expected to improve transportation, reduce travel time, and boost economic opportunities.
Mr. Deynu expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, and other officials for their support. He noted that stakeholder advocacy played a crucial role in the project's approval, and its completion would enhance intra-district trade and connect farming communities to key market centers.
Local resident Mr. Maxwell Notey emphasized the project's potential to improve access to social services for nearby towns and communities. He called for community cooperation with contractors to ensure timely and quality completion, emphasizing the collective ownership of the project.
The sod-cutting ceremony is more than symbolic, representing a significant move towards long-term development and connectivity within the Keta Municipality. Officials reiterated the government's commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps in the municipality and the broader Volta Region.
