Tema: The Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has directed the management of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to issue an eviction notice to residents of the Kaiser Flats in Tema Community 4, citing serious structural and safety risks. Addressing the media during a tour of the site on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, he emphasised that the government is committed to preventing a recurrence of the recent building collapse at Accra New Town.
According to Ghana Web, the structures at Kaiser Flats pose an immediate danger, and residents must vacate them without delay to allow for redevelopment works. The Minister expressed concern about the condition of the buildings, describing them as a "death trap" and questioned why individuals would choose to live in such hazardous conditions.
He revealed that the TDC Managing Director (MD) informed him of efforts to engage the residents and offer them relocation to a place in Kpone. However, the residents have reportedly insisted on staying despite the risks. The Minister has instructed the MD to formalise these offers in writing and obtain acknowledgments from the tenants, ensuring that they understand the alternatives provided and the associated risks of remaining.
