Tema: The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command to their next ranks for their roles in a recent anti-robbery operation at Tema.
According to Ghana Web, the promotion follows the officers' commendable response to a robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5. The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, led to the shooting of two suspected robbers and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other items. The police statement dated Wednesday, April 15, 2026, highlights the officers' bravery and effective action during the operation.
The officers promoted are Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator, and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah. The IGP, along with members of the Police Management Board, commended the officers for their conduct and urged them to see the promotion as a call to higher responsibility.
The robbery attack began when two suspects arrived on a motorbike at Aba Fosuah Plaza, with one posing as a customer intending to make a cash-out transaction. The suspect then pulled a pistol and demanded the vendor's bag of cash, resulting in a struggle during which the female vendor was shot in the leg. The suspects fled with the cash, but a patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit later intercepted them near the Tema General Hospital area.
During the chase towards the Smart Hotel area, the suspects opened fire on the police, prompting officers to return fire. The exchange resulted in the suspects getting wounded and falling from their motorbike. A search of the suspects revealed GHS11,390 believed to be the stolen money, a black 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim. Police also retrieved an empty bullet shell from the scene.
The injured vendor is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment. The police's swift and effective response to the robbery has been widely praised, and the promotion of the officers serves as a recognition of their dedication and professionalism in serving the nation.
