Accra: Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, has commended donors, partners, and alumni for their generosity, which continues to transform students' lives through scholarships and financial aid. Professor Amfo emphasized that every academic journey is fueled not only by intellect but also by opportunities often made possible by the foresight of donors. She made these remarks during a scholarship awards ceremony at the University, celebrating beneficiaries for their resilience and academic excellence. According to Ghana News Agency, for the 2025/2026 academic year, the Students' Financial Aid Office awarded scholarships to 1,348 new and renewing beneficiaries under various schemes. The UG Sponsorship, administered through the Needy Fund, renewed 275 scholarships for students who demonstrated financial need and maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5. Professor Amfo highlighted the extensive impact of these scholarships, noting that financial support to needy students transcends t he University and impacts future generations. 'You are not just funding education. You are expanding horizons, restoring dignity, and unlocking futures,' she stated. Professor Amfo shared her family's story of resilience, illustrating how education transformed her mother's life and created opportunities for subsequent generations. She emphasized the crucial role of the Students' Financial Aid Office, the Registrar, and the Public Affairs Directorate in ensuring that no capable student is denied education due to financial constraints. She urged beneficiaries to use their opportunities for personal advancement and to uplift others, leading with humility and excellence. Mr. Kwabena Annor Ampofo, President of the University of Ghana Alumni Association of North America (UGANA), highlighted the association's commitment to supporting the Students' Financial Aid Office. He praised donors for their dedication and called for more alumni and organizations to join in widening the circle of support. 'What you give doesn 't end here. It lives on in every student who rises to greatness because someone believed in them,' he remarked.
