Nkawie: The Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 30-year-old mason, Solomon Wereko, into prison custody on charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing. Wereko, who has pleaded not guilty, is scheduled to return to court on April 22, 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, who is prosecuting the case, informed the court presided over by Mr. Robert Addo that both the complainant, Asor Gyamfi, a trader, and the accused, Wereko, are residents of Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District. The incident occurred on April 4, 2026, when Gyamfi's sons noticed that the lights in their mother's store, which had been turned off the previous night, were switched on.
Upon investigating, the boys discovered Wereko inside the shop and raised an alarm, prompting the complainant and others to rush to the scene. The incident was reported to the Mpasatia Police, who arrested and detained Wereko for further investigation.
The prosecution revealed that Wereko demonstrated to the police how he accessed the shop by climbing a lotto kiosk, damaging it, and then entering through the front roof after breaking a padlock. He allegedly stole items including 14 bottles of liquid soap, 30 pairs of hand gloves, three electrical cables, and five pairs of socks, totaling a value of GHS 1,160. However, in his caution statement, Wereko admitted to unlawful entry but denied causing damage and stealing. Following investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
