Adidome: Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Tongu Constituency, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Constituency Chairman ahead of the party's upcoming constituency executive elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Fiagbenu, who currently serves as Polling Station Chairman for the Community School Polling Station at Kpogede and Assembly Member of Adidome Central Electoral Area, made the declaration in anticipation of the opening of nominations in July this year. He outlined his political journey, stating that he began as a member without a portfolio and rose through the ranks to become a Polling Station Youth Organiser, and later Chairman of the Assemblies of God Polling Station in Adidome.
He also contested for the Constituency Chairmanship position in 2022 but was unsuccessful. He told the GNA that the experience strengthened his resolve and deepened his commitment to the growth and unity of the party in the constituency. Mr Fiagbenu emphasised his vision to reposition the party through strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening internal structures, promoting unity, and expanding its electoral base.
Mr Fiagbenu pledged to collaborate with party stakeholders to establish the first-ever permanent constituency office to enhance administration and coordination of party activities. On welfare, he would underscore the need to prioritise the well-being of party members, indicating plans to institute a structured welfare scheme to support members in times of illness and bereavement. He cited his track record of providing assistance to party members, including support for hospital bills, funeral arrangements, and financial aid to bereaved families, as a demonstration of his commitment to member welfare.
He also pledged to bolster the recognition and support for families of party members who lost their lives, as well as those who sustained injuries during the 2016 constituency campaign launch at Kpedzeglo. He is committed to fostering unity within the party, stressing the importance of inclusiveness and collective effort in achieving electoral success.
As part of his broader vision, Mr Fiagbenu plans to develop strategies to make the party more attractive to the people of Central Tongu, increase voter support, and ultimately secure the constituency's first NPP Member of Parliament. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about the party's prospects in the 2028 general elections and pledged to lobby for employment opportunities for party members when the NPP returns to government, noting that such efforts would also contribute to sustaining the proposed welfare fund.
He appealed to delegates and party members to support his candidature, reaffirming his commitment to dedicated service and the advancement of the party in the constituency.
