Upper west: The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted a taxi cab carrying 140 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested two suspects in connection with the haul.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects, identified as Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were occupants of the vehicle. The police press release noted that the Command has intensified coordinated operations and intelligence efforts against drug trafficking and abuse, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of suspected narcotic substances across the region.
Over the past four weeks, the Command has recorded a series of narcotic seizures across multiple districts, including Eremon in the Lawra District, the Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, and Hamile in the Lambussie District. These operations have resulted in the seizure of 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight other assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
On April 3, 2026, a police patrol team intercepted a Toyota Corolla taxi at Eremon in the Lawra District, leading to the discovery of 140 compressed slabs of the suspected narcotic substance. Two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were arrested in connection with this discovery.
In a related operation on April 1, 2026, police personnel on duty at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus traveling from Wa to Jirapa. This operation led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee.
The statement highlighted that in most cases, the substances were being transported northwards towards the Hamile direction for delivery. The police have stated that the suspects are at various stages of investigation and prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded.
The Command has issued a warning to transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used for conveying illicit drugs, emphasizing that such vehicles risk forfeiture to the State, along with the prosecution of owners when caught. The Regional Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating drug-related crimes to ensure a safer and more secure environment.
