Armed Attack Halts Activities at Adjen Kotoku Onion Market

Accra: Chaos broke out at the Adjen Kotoku Onion Market when armed individuals, suspected to be from a rival faction, stormed the facility. The armed individuals reportedly attacked traders, forcing business activities to come to a halt.

According to Ghana Web, the attack caused panic, forcing vendors and buyers to flee the scene. This incident follows a history of tension and operational challenges at the new market, which has been a point of contention since the onion traders were relocated there in July 2021. The relocation to Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region followed a decongestion exercise at the Agbogbloshie market.

The update about the incident was shared in an X post on Citi FM, stating, 'Chaos at Adjen Kotoku Onion Market. Gunmen, allegedly from a rival faction, reportedly attacked traders at Adjen Kotoku onion market, causing panic and disruption among vendors and buyers.'
