Accra: Veteran Ghanaian music producer Appietus has revealed the intriguing origins of his iconic "Appietus in the Mix" signature tune, which inadvertently involved dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, then known by the stage name 'Bandana'.
According to Ghana Web, Appietus shared the story during an interview on 'Atuu' with host Nana Romeo, detailing how a studio session with artist Yaw Borga ultimately led to the creation of the now-famous tagline.
Appietus explained that initially, he had no intention of branding his productions with his name. However, this changed when Yaw Borga sought to feature Shatta Wale on a song. Appietus had a unique approach to recording sessions, often asking artists to "rehearse" before the actual take. Unbeknownst to them, he recorded these rehearsals, believing that artists performed more creatively when they thought they weren't being recorded.
During Shatta Wale's session, Appietus stepped away to attend to a client, leaving the headphones off. When he later reviewed the recordings, he discovered audio of Shatta Wale calling his name repeatedly. Inspired by this unexpected capture, Appietus decided to creatively incorporate it into his productions, thereby giving birth to the "Appietus in the Mix" signature.
Appietus credited Shatta Wale's inadvertent contribution as a sign of the artist's destined greatness. Highlighting the significance of the discovery, he expressed gratitude for the role Shatta Wale's voice played in his career. "Without his voice, I wouldn't have come this far," he stated, emphasizing that Shatta Wale's blessings had been present long before his rise to fame.
