Accra: Gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, known as Great Ampong, has clarified that he never spoke ill of the late Highlife singer Daddy Lumba, despite public criticism over the years. In an interview on UTV Ghana, aired on March 28, 2026, Ampong emphasized that his comments were solely focused on retrieving money he claims was owed to him.
According to Ghana Web, Ampong expressed that he would have regretted any inappropriate remarks, particularly after the singer's passing. However, he maintained that he had never engaged in such behavior. When questioned about the alleged debt, Ampong chose not to elaborate on whether he had been compensated, citing that he ceased discussing the matter in 2023.
The collaboration between Great Ampong and Daddy Lumba dates back to 2015 when they worked together on the album "Hosanna." Ampong revealed in a 2016 interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso that Daddy Lumba initiated the collaboration, expressing admiration for Ampong's work and proposing a joint project. The album, consisting of eight songs, reportedly featured six tracks written by Ampong.
Despite the project's success, Ampong disclosed that the aftermath led to a fallout between the two artists. He alleged that Daddy Lumba took the proceeds from the album launch without sharing with him, despite Ampong's investment in the event. Furthermore, Ampong claimed that Lumba uploaded all the songs from the album onto his personal digital music platforms.
Over the years, Ampong has openly discussed his disappointment regarding the issue, describing it as unfair treatment by the iconic Highlife musician.
