Tema: Following the tragic microlight helicopter crash that landed at the TMA Daycare, Site 18, in Tema Community One on Monday, March 16, 2026, school officials have shared how they managed to evacuate the children and prevent injuries during the incident.
According to Ghana Web, a daycare official narrated that most of the children were asleep when the incident occurred. She explained that evacuating them was difficult because many were asleep, so they had to be dragged on the floor to quickly move them away from danger.
The official detailed that when the helicopter crashed, the children who were awake became frightened and started running. The staff had to hold the hands of those who were asleep and drag them outside the school building to safety. She acknowledged the help from people nearby who supported the evacuation efforts.
The crash left many of the children traumatised, with the official expressing concerns about the emotional impact. Although the school building was not physically affected, she mentioned that due to the traumatic experience, the school would likely remain closed the following day. The daycare is attended by about 65 children.
