Sunyani: Bono Regional Chief Imam, Imam Baaba Seidu Haidara, has appealed to Muslim girls and young women to refrain from body enhancements, wearing make-up, and engaging in promiscuous behavior as the 2026 Ramadan season draws to a close. During an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Sunday, March 15, 2026, during the inauguration of a rehabilitated mosque at the Sunyani Night Market, Imam Haidara said such practices were inconsistent with Islamic teachings and risked exposing the religion to public ridicule.
According to Ghana Web, Imam Haidara argued that pre-marital sexual activities and certain body adornments represented foreign influences that undermined the moral values upheld by Islam. "These practices are increasingly becoming common in some Zongo communities. They distort Islamic beliefs and traditions," he stated. Beyond addressing the conduct of young women, the Chief Imam raised concerns over rising indiscipline among Muslim youth.
He urged them to avoid lawless acts and to conduct themselves in ways that reflect Islam's peaceful values. Imam Haidara also criticized reckless motorbike riding during festive periods, cautioning that such behavior endangered lives and tarnished the image of the Muslim community.
Furthermore, Imam Haidara commended Alhaji Issaka-Issa, the mosque benefactor and Bono Regional Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party, for funding the renovations, which included modern air conditioners and ceiling fans to create a more comfortable environment for worshippers. He encouraged other well-meaning individuals to support the development of Zongo communities.
