Ellembelle: Madam Judith Adjoba Blay, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Gas Limited Company (GNGLC), has launched the registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for 20,000 residents within eight districts in the company's catchment areas of the Western Region. The one-month exercise will cover 78 communities in Ellembelle, Jomoro, Nzema-East, Ahanta-West, Mpohor, EKMA, STMA, and Shama Districts.
According to Ghana News Agency, the free NHIS registration exercise is the fourth in the series since the inception of the company and is themed 'Your Health, Our Priority.' Mr. Henry Anlimah, Assistant Manager at the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department of Ghana Gas, stated that the first day of the exercise would cover residents of Atuabo, Ekabaku, and Nsein in the Ellembelle, Jomoro, and Nzema-East Districts, respectively.
He further noted that between 2014 and 2024, Ghana Gas registered 25,000 people onto the scheme with free NHIS cards to access medical care. Under the leadership of the new CEO, Madam Adjoba-Blay, the company has decided to register a total of 20,000 beneficiaries within one year.
Mr. Anlimah emphasized that as a responsible corporate institution, Ghana Gas aims to enhance the health of people within its operational areas. This initiative will provide project-affected people in the communities with the opportunity to maintain good health and benefit from the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the company.
The Assistant Manager at the CSR Department assured the people in the Western Region of the company's commitment to meeting the needs of affected communities. He also mentioned that Ghana Gas would soon roll out infrastructural development projects in areas such as health, education, and sanitation, among others.
Mr. Anlimah encouraged the people to participate in the exercise, as primary health care is critical and the company is committed to supporting them. Some beneficiaries who spoke to journalists at Ekabaku near Atuabo expressed gratitude, stating that they previously had to travel long distances to Half-Assini in Jomoro or Nkroful in Ellembelle for NHIS card registration or renewal. They thanked the company for bringing the registration and renewal of NHIS cards to their doorsteps, enabling them to access health care delivery.
