Afenyo-Markin Emphasizes the Benefits of Golf in Political Life

Accra: The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has said that golfing helps him think critically as a leader. He explained that despite his tight schedule as a politician, he devotes time to play golf to relieve stress and engage with people outside his usual environment. The Minority Leader in Parliament disclosed that people he meets on the golf course sometimes draw his attention to shortcomings in his leadership, which he reflects on to make improvements.

According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin shared his thoughts in a video posted by UTV on X, stating that golf is not only a game but a reflection of life itself. He mentioned playing with both professional golfers and caddies, which provides him with insights into the lives of ordinary people. These interactions, he noted, offer him feedback on his strengths and weaknesses as a political leader.

The Effutu MP urged people to venture into golf, saying it helps shape personalities by teaching manners and courtesies. He added that the sport builds temperament and resilience, as players experience wins and losses and learn not to give up. "I would encourage many people to take up golf. A walk on the course is a walk through life. You learn to be a true gentleman, to extend courtesies. Sometimes you get upset, but you rise again. Life is a journey, you fail, you succeed, you fall, you rise. I'm on that journey, and I won't give up," he added.
