Ada west: The Ada West District Assembly has begun implementing an institutional farming initiative aimed at promoting food production and self-reliance among residents. Mr Mordjifa Tanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive (DCE), said the programme sought to encourage communities and institutions to engage in farming activities to strengthen food security.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was introduced during the 69th Independence Day celebration at Sege, where Mr Mills-Nkrumah disclosed that 50 bags of fertiliser had been distributed to support the programme. The initiative aims to demonstrate to young people that economic prosperity can be achieved through productive work. "It is about teaching our children that prosperity grows from effort," he stated.
The DCE urged residents to embrace agriculture as a means of building sustainable livelihoods and reducing dependence on external food supplies. Mr Mills-Nkrumah also called on sons and daughters of Ada living abroad to return home and invest in the development of the district, emphasizing the collective efforts required from its natives to drive economic growth and create opportunities for the youth.
He encouraged members of the Ada diaspora to contribute to local development through mentorship, investment, and knowledge sharing. "Come home, invest here, mentor our youth here, and build here," he urged.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah added that the future development of Ada West depended on unity, discipline, and active participation from all citizens. He emphasised that the district's prosperity would be achieved when residents worked together to strengthen education, agriculture, infrastructure, and healthcare.
