Tragic Campus Shuttle Bus Accident Claims Life of UCC Student

Cape coast: A tragic incident has claimed the life of a student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) after he was reportedly involved in an accident while attempting to retrieve his student identification card before an examination. The student, identified as Caleb Mensah, popularly known among colleagues as Paywa, had reportedly arrived at the examination hall without his student ID.

According to Ghana Web, reports circulating on social media suggest that Caleb was asked to return and fetch the card before being allowed to sit for the exam. In an attempt to return quickly, he reportedly took a motorbike to go for the ID. However, while en route, he was tragically struck by a campus shuttle bus.

The accident is said to have occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, leaving fellow students shocked and devastated. 'As the rider turned back to retrieve the ID, they hit a pothole. The impact caused Caleb to fall off the bike, and in an unfortunate turn of events, he stepped into the path of an oncoming shuttle, which struck and ran over him,' reports The State News.

Caleb was rushed to the hospital immediately but, sadly, did not survive. Meanwhile, university authorities are yet to officially comment on the incident.
