Cape coast: Eleven people sustained varying degrees of injuries when an Opel Astra saloon car and a Nissan Minibus collided at Eduadjei on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway on Tuesday night. The collision occurred around 19:15 hours, involving the Opel (WR 4860-13) heading towards Komenda from Cape Coast and the Nissan (CR 1414-23), a Cape Coast-bound bus. The cause of the accident remains unclear.
According to Ghana News Agency, the victims comprised nine males and two females, confirmed by DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, the Central Regional PRO of the Ghana National Fire Service. Ten passengers on board the Nissan Minibus were rescued by passersby and taken to the Elmina Polyclinic before a rescue team from the Komenda Fire Station arrived.
The fire team reached the scene within 15 minutes after receiving a call about the incident and successfully extricated the driver of the Opel. The driver was transported to the Elmina Polyclinic by the National Ambulance Service. To ensure safety and restore the free flow of traffic, the rescue team promptly cleared the debris from the road.
DOII Hudu indicated that investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
