Accra: The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has officially sworn in a 10-member Entity Tender Committee (ETC), emphasizing the importance of upholding integrity, fairness, and professionalism in their responsibilities. This significant step was marked by a brief ceremony at the Fund's secretariat in Accra, where Nelly Bernice Wallace, a Board Member and legal practitioner, inaugurated the committee, aiming to strengthen the Fund's governance and procurement systems.
According to Ghana Web, the Administrator of GMTF, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, who also chairs the ETC, urged the committee members to remain objective and diligent, strictly adhering to the rules designed to safeguard the public purse. She highlighted the importance of maintaining credibility and performance, as these attributes would depend heavily on the committee's work.
The newly formed committee comprises members from various professional backgrounds, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Ghana Medical Association, and the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply. This diversity ensures a comprehensive approach to guiding procurement decisions.
Darko-Opoku reminded the members of their significant responsibilities under the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), as amended by Act 914. The committee is tasked with providing oversight, approving procurement plans, reviewing submissions, and ensuring full compliance with the law. She emphasized the crucial role of public procurement in government institutions, describing the committee's formation as central to good governance within the institution.
She also stressed GMTF's reliance on procurement for executing critical projects, acquiring essential goods and services, and ensuring smooth operations. The effectiveness of the committee is expected to have a direct impact on the Fund's performance indicators and its ability to fulfill its public mandate.
Ms. Darko-Opoku expressed confidence in the expertise and experience of the committee members, hoping for a strengthened procurement oversight structure within the Fund. On behalf of GMTF's Board, Management, and Staff, she congratulated the members on their appointment, encouraging them to approach their duties with dedication, commitment, and integrity.
