Speaker Bagbin Hosts SBF 2026: A Call to Bring Parliament Closer to the People

Accra: Mr. Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, is set to host the 2026 edition of the Speaker's Breakfast Forum (SBF) in partnership with the STAR-Ghana Foundation. This year's theme, 'Parliamentary Decentralisation: Taking Parliament Closer to the People,' aims to advance governance and policy reform in Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by Mr. David Sebastian Damoah, the Director, Media Relations for the Parliamentary Service, detailed the upcoming event. The SBF is designed to be a forum that brings together key stakeholders, including district assemblies, academia, traditional authorities, and civil society organisations. The statement highlighted that the event will feature a presentation by Professor Badu Agyemang, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. His presentation will outline actionable proposals to guide the national conversation on decentralisation and set the stage for a high-level panel discussion. The panel will include notable figures such as Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, a law and governance consultant; Dr. Charity Dzradosi, Research Fellow at the Institute of Local Government Studies; Mr. Sammy Obeng, Executive Director of the Parliamentary Network Africa; and Dr. Richard Fiadomor, President of the Chamber for Local Governance-ChaLoG. The statement further noted that the SBF 2026 is expected to catalyse renewed national commitment to bringing Parliament closer to the people, amidst growing public demand for a more participatory, transparent, and responsive governance system.
